The Thanksgiving Quilt, Conclusion from Road Home Quilting

 The Thanksgiving Quilt, Conclusion

The Thanksgiving Quilt - Part 2

Rust and orange overflowing in a vase, the mums graced the center of the Thanksgiving table.  And they looked good, too, Martha had to admit. Simple, but just fine. The children had grazed most of the relish tray and were squirming at the table, not hungry at all. But they were so cute.  Martha looked across the table to her husband, and found Bob was watching her. She blushed slightly when Linda said, “Everything is amazing, Martha, someday you will have to teach me how you do all this.”

“I’ll ...

The Thanksgiving Quilt, Part Two from Road Home Quilting

The Thanksgiving Quilt - Part Two

The Thanksgiving Quilt - Part One

Beep beep! A horn interrupted Martha, and the women turned to see Jim’s sports wagon arriving in front of the house. His mother smiled and shook her head as Jim parked on the front yard like he did when he was in high school. Jack and his baby sister, loosed from their car seats, ran through swirling leaves to hug their grandmother.

Martha knelt to scoop both babies in her arms and they squirmed under her blanket of kisses. “Say good-bye to Mrs. Walker,” Martha instructed as she took ...

The Thanksgiving Quilt Begins from Road Home Quilting

The Thanksgiving Quilt - Part 1

Martha pulled the last beans from the vine. Not enough to fill her old blue mixing bowl, but surely plenty for the dinner. Linda, #DIL as Martha referred to her on Twitter, never ate much anyway. The pumpkins she would leave on the vine for the children to “find.”  Wiping her hands on her apron, Martha allowed herself time to smile, remembering how little Jack always thought the pumpkins were his.

So much to do, she shaded her eyes from the soft autumn sunshine to look around the yard. A few late crab apples remained ...

Creepy Green from Road Home Quilting

 Creepy Green

a haunted story by Kitty Pearl

Although we lived in Texas, it was much closer to take the hour long drive into New Mexico for groceries. Of course, no one would spend the gas making that trip alone. You would always take a friend, or at least her shopping list. Which is how I found myself playing Scrabble with Carmen’s kids on a wintry Texas night while she finished clearing their dinner table in preparation for our car pool trip to fetch another week’s groceries.

Carmen and I made the most of our jaunt to the ...

Admiring the Finish from Road Home Quilting

I mended my friend Cheryl's little black dress for a special occasion. And I finished it two weeks in advance, not the day of the event, so I was very pleased with myself. I texted Cheryl to say I would be brining the dress back to her that evening. Done and done.

But wait, there is more.....

When I got to Cheryl's home, neighbors were waiting there to see the dress. There was pizza.  People patted me on the back and offered to get me drinks. The dress was handed around for each person to admire the new ...

4Writers from Road Home Quilting

Two new resources linked here, for those of you likewise experiencing the writing journey.

Plottr

Plottr is the missing link I've been looking for.
Plottr gives you 9 classic story templates (hero's journey, etc.) in timeline form. You can put your story cards on the timeline with links to your character profiles and settings. You can even link themes, characters and other tags across a series of books. And can you believe, only $25/year for Windows, a little more for Mac, $37 I think.

Please checkout Kitty Pearl's Library

Curated here are all our favorite books ...

Covid Sewing Stories from Road Home Quilting

I was telling my neighbor about the sewing adventures I have seen while selling sewing machines during the quarantine. She said the news was inspiring. Here are my stories, so you can judge for yourself.

A young couple with a new baby came in. They had just received their stimulus check and asked me to help them pick a serger. They wanted to sew their own baby clothes.

Half a dozen men with no sewing experience have come into the shop. They were all starting mask making businesses because they had been laid-off from work. They were fearlessly learning to ...

All around the house from Road Home Quilting

Since today is for remembering, I want to thank our friends Bob and Linda. Linda was in our neighborhood quilt club and taught sewing to the girls at her church. She was first in the neighborhood to sew with vinyl - she made some cool school binders for Alex. Once we had a sew day and made draft guards - to keep the heat out LOL. I still have one :)

Bob was our neighborhood handyman. Here are a few pictures of all the great work Bob has done for our house.

Bob painted our living room - and did an amazing great job ...

The Witch's Quilt Conclusion from Road Home Quilting

The Witch's Quilt by Kitty Pearl
Part 6

All was quiet when Emily awoke. Near dawn, the old castle was still. She listened, and at last heard the ocean playing with the rocks below the castle cliff. She could see the familiar outline of Andrew asleep in the four posted bed. How much he resembled Jeremy in his sleep. The fireplace had died down, yet she wasn't cold. Emily snuggled deeper into the blanket covering her on the settee.
A blanket.....Andrew must have found a coverlet for her before he had gone to bed himself ...

Part 5

But what about spelling? Emily laughed wearily to herself as she pondered, this was like trying to read one of Melissa's text messages. Was this quilt saying LOL FYI CYS in Old English? Emily moved to stand by the fireplace. She stared at the flames resting her overtired eyes from the books.
Emily mused on her studies: Beowulf ...
